The drive is open to the public, so invite friends and family. Advanced registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome.

Our annual drive is in memory of Larry Francos and Michele Louis, two beloved congregants who had blood cancer.

gift of life stem cell research

Gift of Life Stem Cell Registration Event
Parents and grandparents, please help spread the word.

Calling all 18-35 Year Olds!
Come swab your cheek and you could save a life.

A patient is diagnosed with blood cancer every three minutes. When chemotherapy and radiation therapy aren’t enough to bring about a cure, stem cell or bone marrow transplants can be life-saving.  About 90% of matches donate blood stem cells and 10% donate marrow (primarily for pediatric patients). After registration, if you are a match, donating is up to you.

No appointment is necessary. It takes only 5 minutes, and you could help lift someone towards healing.

Any questions, please contact Jerry Strauss at

Support these Mitzvah Day Initiatives Starting Now

Cell Phone Collection—Support Survivors. Save the Planet. Declutter.

Do you have used or broken cell phones and accessories taking up space? Help us turn them into support for survivors of domestic violence, keep them out of landfills, and declutter your home.

We are collecting phones, chargers, headphones, ear buds, batteries, and other phone accessories to benefit the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Through a partnership with Cellular Recycle, donated devices will be securely cleared of data, refurbished for resale, or responsibly recycled. A portion of the revenue from refurbished devices goes directly to the Hotline.

To further protect your privacy, please “wipe” your phone’s data by following the appropriate instructions below:

Drop off your phones and accessories in the collection box in the upper lobby, starting March 1 through Mitzvah Day.

Birthday in a Bag

We’re creating Birthday in a Bag kits to bring celebration and joy to children living at the Corona Family Residence.

Each bag includes all the essentials for a birthday party — because every child deserves to feel special on their big day.

💛 Please help by purchasing items from our Amazon Wish List and make a child’s birthday a little brighter!

Second Chance Toys Drive

Kick Start Your Spring Cleaning!

We’re collecting gently used and new plastic and wood toys, electronics, and children’s books.

We’re partnering again with Second Chance Toys to rescue your outplayed toys, rehome them, and keep them out of landfills. Last year, we collected over 300 toys and 800 books and donated them to children living in temporary housing at the Corona Family Residence and to Book Fairies.

What you can donate:

  • Gently used plastic or wood toys and electronics—working batteries included
  • Children’s books in good condition
  • All required parts or pieces are included and attached in baggies taped to toys
  • New craft materials or projects
  • Baby items (toys, monitors, sound machines)
  • NO plush toys unless they are brand new or in perfect, clean condition

See the suggested items you can donate and how to prepare them for drop off in Temple’s upper lobby on or before Mitzvah Day.

ToFHY and all teens are welcome on Mitzvah Day (1:15 pm –2:30 pm) to clean and prepare toys for donation.

Tzedakah Opportunities

Yesod Mutual Aid Fund

Organized by Reform congregation Shir Tikvah in Minneapolis, the Yesod Fund provides direct, flexible aid to families and individuals navigating instability and harm because of ICE in the Twin Cities. Yesod means foundation. Sod means secret. Together, they speak to what this fund is: the quiet, essential support that holds people up when everything else feels unstable.

This mutual aid support helps people:

  • Be safely housed
  • Access food and basic needs
  • Cover urgent expenses
  • Respond to sudden crises with dignity and agency

The last round of $50k was claimed in just 7 minutes. The need is real, and it is urgent.

Donate to the Yesod Fund today to help open another round of funding.

Queens Community House—Strengthening Neighbors, Inspiring Change

Queens Community House (QCH) provides individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities. With 39 sites in 15 Queens neighborhoods, QCH helps thousands of our neighbors succeed in school, make healthy life choices, educate themselves, become engaged citizens, stabilize their housing situations, and make the most of their senior years.

Donate to QCH to support a broad range of critical services and life-enriching programs for all ages and ethnicities–even choose where to direct your contribution. Every dollar makes a difference in lifting up our neighbors and helping them thrive.
