Faye Gilman / Educational Leader

Faye Gilman joined the Reform Temple of Forest Hills as Educational Leader in September 2007. During her 17 years in the field of Religious School education, Faye has earned a reputation as a caring and dedicated advocate for her students. She has also made her mark with her efforts toward curriculum development and innovative programming for school-wide events and family education seminars. During her tenure as principal of Temple Israel of Jamaica, Faye proved herself to be an effective administrator and strong faculty leader. As a Religious School principal, Faye has always drawn on her hands-on classroom experience with all grades in order to maintain a practical approach to religious education.

In order to remain current with the trends and new directions of religious education, Faye has committed herself to continuing her own development in this regard. She maintains consistent contact with the Board of Jewish Education and is a past recording secretary for the Long Island Temple Educators (LITE).  Faye was also a member of the first cohort of the Leadership Institute - a joint venture with Hebrew Union College (HUC) and Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS).  Throughout this two year program she attended lectures with 40 other principals from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. In addition, Faye was an active participant of the Re-Imagine- ECE (Experiment in Congregational Education) both at Temple Israel of Jamaica and at her home congregation, where she has held the roles of Coordinator and Educator. Faye has utilized the foundations of these programs not only to enhance the Religious School experience for her students, but also to provide professional learning and staff development opportunities for her faculty members.
